noted, queen!

This week Wendy read (and listened!) to my most recent short film - a comedy musical - The Devil in Drag. When a jealous drag queen (Eva Ville) dies and wakes in hell, she must “werk” her way out with the help of her lover in heaven (Miss Allure), who she killed out of envy.

It was fascinating to see Wendy in action as she gave me notes on my story and formatting. Clearly in her element, she was “yes-anding” me as she found weaknesses in my story -- but most importantly -- solutions too. She was able to point out which parts felt unnecessarily long, how to get to the conflict faster, and ways to further dramatize Eva and Miss Allure’s relationship. Wendy also had a great note on how to improve the ending which she felt was missing a “beat.” Also, because I’ve been working so closely with this script for many months, Wendy’s fresh perspective gave her the ability to point out unclear beats that I can now return to and clarify based on her confusion.

I left the meeting feeling so excited and reinvigorated about my work. I can’t thank Wendy enough for her time and the thoughtfulness of her notes.
